The geography used in this series has some serious problems. Granted, this is a fictional series and doesn’t have to strictly conform to reality, but did Bill Dubuque not look at a map when he was writing the plot point that the Snells flooded their own land with water diverted from the Missouri River to create a place to put the casino? Odd, since he spent his youth working at Alhonna Resort at LOZ. These are facts: Lake of the Ozarks was created by damming the Osage River. The water that backed up from the creation of Bagnell Dam in 1929 created the lake. Water is released from the dam and continues downstream into the Osage River. The Osage River flows into the Missouri River about 70 miles downstream from Lake of the Ozarks. [EDIT or about 40 miles as the turkey vulture flies] That would mean that the only place the Snells could conceivably have property that they could flood with water from the Missouri River would be somewhere near where the Osage meets the Missouri. The only problem with that is this would put the Snells’ land about an hour away from any land that would have been taken by imminent domain and flooded by the original creation of Lake of the Ozarks back in 1929. And that original seizing and flooding out by the government is what Jacob Snell has been holding a grudge about for so long. (It’s also pretty far-fetched that anybody could grow and process enough opium poppies inside the United States to be profitable without being noticed, and just having the local Sheriff under your control wouldn’t be enough to keep the DEA away. But, that’s fodder for another discussion.)

MOVIE GUIDE 47 METERS DOWN - Two sisters vacationing in Mexico become trapped in a shark cage on the ocean floor. As their oxygen starts to run out and with great white sharks circling them, the sisters must find a way to get to the surface alive. BEATRIZ AT DINNER - Salma Hayek stars as Beatriz, a kind-hearted and fiercely principled spiritual healer from a small Mexican town who now has clients all throughout Los Angeles County. Late one day, Beatriz finds herself stranded at the home of Cathy (Connie Britton), a wealthy and adoring regular. Cathy invites Beatriz to stay for dinner with her husband's business associates. Soon Beatriz is conversing with Doug (John Lithgow), an equally determined real estate tycoon with his own set of principles. Sparks fly in this engrossing, witty film from Miguel Arteta and Mike White (Chuck & Buck). THE BEGUILED - Directed by Sofia Coppola (The Virgin Suicides), this exhilarating, atmospheric thriller takes place near the end of the Civil War. Cpl. John McBurney (Colin Farrell), a wounded Union soldier, finds himself stranded In rural Virginia. Before he bleeds out, he is rescued by a young student (Oona Laurence) of the Miss Martha Farnsworth Seminary for Young Ladies. Nicole Kidman stars as Miss Martha, the headmistress of this isolated, all-girls boarding school. Rather than report John to the authorities, Martha decides to nurse him back to health. The first man this house has seen in ages, John quickly fetches the attention of the seminary's seven residents, including the schoolteacher (Kirsten Dunst), a student (Elle Fanning) and Miss Martha herself. THE BIG SICK - A Pakistani-American standup comedian (Kumail Nanjiani) falls for an American woman (Zoe Kazan), despite the fact that his family wants him to consent to an arranged marriage with someone from his own culture. As it dives into this story, Funeral Parade of Roses offers an exhilarating example of the possibilities of cinema. Wildly floating between fiction, documentary and the avant-garde, this one-of-a-kind Japanese New Wave title ― a major influence for Stanley Kubrick on A Clockwork Orange ― is just now appearing on North American shores, beautifully restored and ready to startle. THE HOUSE - A dad convinces his friends to start an illegal casino in his basement after he and his wife spend their daughter's college fund.
